How can thermal underwear made of silk keep the body evenly tempered and be used both indoors and outdoors?

Silk is a unique material. All thermal underwear from SidenSelma is in 100% mulberry silk. Silk tricot is a unique and temperature regulating material. It keeps your body warm during cold weather and cool during hot weather. Thanks to the perforated structure of the silk fibers moisture such as sweat is allowed to be transported out of the garment.

The silk fiber is hollow, which contributes to the amazing temperature control that silk has naturally!

Therefore, many think that thermal underwear in silk is the perfect choice for both indoor & outdoor use.

Why is silk a more environmentally friendly material than cotton, polyester, viscose etc?

Silk is a natural material and 100% biodegradable. When washing garments made of synthetic textiles, microplastics are washed off and end up in the ocean.

Our silk products are completely free of pesticides and other chemicals. When dying the products we use mild dyes approved by the EU. The silk fiber is smooth and therefore dirt- repellent and does not have to be washed as often as other textiles. We recommend you to only use a gentle washing detergent. Washing less and using a gentle silk soap means less water, energy and chemical usage. Cotton farming, for example, requires huge amounts of pesticides which damages the surrounding environment. Both silk and hemp are two eco- friendly materials and silk has a relatively low carbon footprint.

The production of silk also helps to protect the mulberry trees and increase the general number of trees. Our silk comes from mulberry trees which are very resistant to air pollution, they also have many leaves and long life time, which makes mulberry trees an optional tree for reducing the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere!

Why are pillow cases in silk great for your hair?

  1. Silk is always comfortably soft & lustrous against your skin and hair
  2. Prevents hair breakage during night time
  3. Reduces the amount of broken hairs
  4.     Prevents sleep wrinkles
  5. The length of the silk fiber gives an almost non friction material, without anything sticking up on fiber level, resulting in a fantastically smooth finish
  6. Our pillow cases in mulberry silk of finest quality are actually made of the world’s smoothest natural fibers!
  7. The natural oils in silk helps keep moisture in the skin, preventing dryness
  8. Silk is temperature regulating, always the perfect temperature!
  9. Heat is a common reason for frizzy hair. The temperature regulation reduces frizz & heat damage
  10. Our mulberry silk is a 100% natural material!

How do I wash silk?

Silk does not have to be washed as often as other textiles. Use a detergent free of enzymes, we recommend a classic ”Marsielle soap”.  Wash by hand or in machine on low temperatures below 40 degrees.

Why are silk gloves so practical?

Silk gloves are perfect to use as inner gloves underneath other gloves. Silk is a breathable & temperature regulating material. When worn as the layer closest to skin, the silk fibers allow moisture, such as sweat, to transfer through the fabric.

Our silk gloves are wonderfully soft, skin friendly and emollient – great for sensitive skin and dry hands!
